1. What did you learn?
– In this lab we learned a couple of different methods that can be used to remove the background from an image. <\/td><\/tr>
2. What was easy?
– I was surprised at how easily the quick selection tool could pick out a person when its on “select subject”, I had not used that much. <\/td><\/tr>
3. What was challenging?
– The hardest part for me was using the pen tool to select the subject. I’ve always struggled with it a bit but, this was good practice and I felt better by the end. <\/td><\/tr>
4. How could your submission be improved?
– I was able to successfully remove all the subjects from the background and touch them up. Looking closely at them there are still a few pixels that could be cleaned up. <\/td><\/tr>
5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?
– This was a great assignment for practicing these tools. Perhaps a more in depth tutorial on the pen tool but that was pretty easy to find online. <\/td><\/tr>
6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?
– There are many situations in this industry where a client want something done to the subject of an image without the background. This has a lot of practical implications. <\/td><\/tr>
7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?
– I went through the class slides for this lab which were very helpful. I also turned to a YouTube video for some tips on the pen tool. <\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Which method did you prefer? Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • I really liked the select and mask method used in this lab. I thought it worked extremely well removing her from the background and did not even have many issues with the really tough area around her hair. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Which method was the hardest to master? Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • For me this was the pen tool. The more I use it the better I understand it. It always just takes me a bit to get good paths and Ctrl Z is my best friend while using it. Once I got a better at knowing how the paths communicate with each other it got a lot faster. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      How could you improve your masks?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • I would probably try to put subtle effects on them like feathering to try and remove some junk pixels left over from the background. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
