Reflection

  1. What did you learn?
  2. What was easy?
  3. What was challenging?
  4. How could your submission be improved?
  5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?
  6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?
  7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

In this project I learned how to navigate the website figma. I was able to create complex shapes by using simple ones that they had at hand. With this project I was able to think outside the box on how to connect objects to make a cohesive image.

Once I had an idea in mind, creating the images were pretty easy. In my head I am able to take images nd break them down into simple shapes, so creating images out of shapes wasn’t a problem to me.

What was challenging was creating ideas for each line of poetry. I chose the nursery rhyme, Baa Baa Black Sheep, and some lines used more out-of-the-box thinking than others. For instance, the line, “Yes sir, Yes sir,” contains no imagery at the base of it. So for me I had to think of symbols that can represent those words and by using that method I was able to overcome my challenges.

My submission could include more symbolism. In this project my designs have more of a story board aspect and I feel like I can play around with simplicity more. If I kept it more simple, my designs can pop out more than it does now. Also what I can improve on is integrating more principles of gesalt. I feel as though I can make more of the images as stand out or create different grids that show different principles.

For the next class Professor Dunkle should allow the students to explore more how to use symbolism with simple shapes. I feel as though it is easy to create images but if you make the rules to not allow the students to create images such as people or places, there could be more creativity when it comes to this project.

With the knowledge I learned from this project I will be able to simplify words or ideas into shapes. When making or integrating a logo into a different projects I will try to use the principles of gesalt to make it stand out.

The reading from smashing magazine helped me understand fully what each principle is and how to properly use them. This reading helped me make sure the eye was catching the focal point that is intended to stand out.
