Project 4 Reflection

1. What did you learn?

I learned how to make an infographic map in Adobe Illustrator based on a screenshot from Google Maps by mapping out areas, tracing roads, drawing symbols, creating a compass rose and scale, and designing a warped text banner.

2. What was easy?

Marking out and labelling areas and roads, adding a scale, and creating a compass rose and town banner were easy.

3. What was challenging?

Creating symbols and arranging them appropriately was the most challenging part of this project.

4. How could your submission be improved?

I tried my best to keep my map from becoming too cluttered, but I think I could still improve in this area.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

The professor might improve the assignment by showing more recent examples of past student projects in the Project 4 slides.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I’ve become a lot more comfortable using Illustrator through this project, particularly with using the pen tool and creating more detailed illustrations, so this will be useful for any futural assignments that require working in Illustrator.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

I followed this video tutorial to create my fire station symbol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7JnBzbstT4.

I was also inspired to create more detailed symbols from the map of Leith included in the examples on the Project 4 slides
