Project 2: Color

What did you learn?

In this project, I learned how to use triadic, complementary, split-complementary, and analogous color schemes. I also learned how to use tools like gradients and color progressions to create a landscape with a sense of depth.

What was easy?

Choosing and sticking to a color scheme for each landscape was easy. Using the shape and pen tools to create elements for each landscape was also easy.

What was challenging?

Building up each landscape to a point I was happy with, working with gradients, and keeping gestalt principles in mind while also working with color were more challenging parts of this project.

How could your submission be improved?

To improve my submission, I might try to add some more depth to my seascape.

How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?

I thought that the assignment worked well as is.

How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

For future assignments or work scenarios that involve color, I will be able to choose a color scheme based on the 4 types that we learned rather than arbitrarily choosing colors. I will also now be able to use a tool like Coolors and understand why the color schemes generated work well.

How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

Looking through Brian Edward Miller’s work on Dribbble was a helpful source of inspiration for how to build up a landscape with a sense of depth.
