Valentine’s Day Card
Reflection:
1. What did you learn? – In project 1, I learned some of the basics of using Adobe Photoshop. Previous to this class, I have had absolutely no experience in photoshop and found it pretty intimidating because of how complex it is. During this lab, I was able to learn how to add images, remove backgrounds, add and customize texts, and how to create layers in photoshop.
2. What was easy? The easiest part of this project was removing backgrounds from images that had no background because you could just select the magic eraser tool and it gets rid of the background for you in an instant. Another easy part was picking out my color palette, when I think of Valentine’s Day I immediately think of pinks, purples, and reds, so it was easy to decide that these were the colors that I wanted for my card.
3. What was challenging? The most challenging part of this project was typing on a custom path because it was part to make it look normal and not too warped and squished together. Another part that was somewhat challenging for me was removing the background from the picture of my dog, Frisby. The image had more of a complex background so doing the magic eraser tool can only get you so far, I had to edit it quite a bit to remove the small bits that was missed.
4. How could your submission be improved? One way my submission could be improved is making the inside of the card more detailed by adding more designs, I really like how the outside of my card turned out and how I designed it but the inside is a little more plain and simple, which I could have expanded on.
5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class? I thought this was the perfect introduction to photoshop, I wouldn’t change anything.
6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios? If I do end up working in DMA for my career, knowing photoshop is extremely important to getting more job opportunities so I can apply some of this basic knowledge in whatever photoshop projects I do next.
7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you? I really cant say that any specific reading or video inspired me when designing this card but it was inspiring to read about how photoshop was done before advanced technology was made. I think that Adobe photoshop is honestly pretty difficult but I cant imagine having to photoshop something without having all of those tools accessible to me. Before computers were used to photoshop, people had to piece together photographs in a darkroom and retouch spots using art materials by hand to manipulate photos; I imagine this must have taken endless amounts of hours to do something that would take only minutes to do using Adobe photoshop. I think this is inspiring because it shows the dedication that people had to making interesting and amusing pieces of art that has not been seen before. They could have just taken regular pictures but instead, they spent endless amounts of time manipulating a photograph by hand to turn it into something more interesting.
