DMA 214 project 1

What did I learn? I learned about the different types of gestalt principles and also concepts like: “The rule of thirds”. It was interesting to see how these principles are present in many logos and designs

What was easy? It was easy to use Figma. I find it one of the easiest platforms to use and get a hang on. It was easy to use the tools and to create some shapes to represent the storytelling

What was challenging? At the beginning of the project, I found it very hard to represent certain principles like “closure” and “figure-ground”. And to represent more than one principle on one frame. I also had a hard time creating certain shapes while being able to tell a story. Like the interrogation sign.

How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class? I think the PowerPoints he used should have more examples of the principles and the design crimes

How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments? I can apply this knowledge to future assignments that relate to creating logos. I think it will be really helpful to implement these principles into future designs that I’ll make.

How did a specific reading or video inspire you? This reading from the PicsArt website helped me understand the principles more in-depth. https://picsart.com/blog/post/gestalt-principles-for-design

And also looking at various student examples. I was inspired by some of them

Frame 1: twinkle twinkle, little star. (continuation)
The Gestalt principles I used are continuation and closure. is created through the diagonal line of stars
The focal point is: the little star

Frame 2: how I wonder what you are (figure-ground)
The Gestalt principles I used are: repetition and figure-ground
The focal point is: the star and the interrogation sign represents the figure-ground, they are on top of a shape. Repetition is present in the footsteps.

Frame 3: up above the world so high (proximity)
The Gestalt principles I used are proximity and repetition. Proximity is present because the moon and star are the only different shapes in the frame. clouds, arrows, and stars represent repetition.

The focal point is: the star and the moon.

Frame 4: like a diamond in the sky (similarity)
The Gestalt principles I used are similarity and closure. Similarity is present through the different triangles that make up the diamond
The focal point is: diamond

Frame 5: Twinkle twinkle little star (repetition)
The Gestalt principle I used are: repetition
The focal point is: the double star

Frame 6: how I wonder what you are (closure)
The Gestalt principals I used are: closure
The focal point is: star around the circles
