What Did You Learn?
I learned the ins and outs of the Adobe Premiere program, and many of the tools that have gone along with it. I also learned about the designing aspect of Adobe After Effects, and how to create an animated short film of sorts.
What Was Easy?
Creating the soundtrack was the easiest and most fun part, I love music and am very familiar with Garageband to begin with, so I really enjoyed that part. Once I got the hang of it, I also really enjoyed designing the animation on After Effects.
What Was Challenging?
One of the most challenging things was to load up premiere on the school computers, because for the classes where I had a relatively large Adobe Premiere File, and it took like ten minutes to load onto the computer. This really limited my editing time, and the program ran very slowly. It made it difficult to swiftly make edits.
How Could Your Submission be Improved?
I could have done a better job of capturing footage. I didn’t realize how much footage I really wanted for this project, I wanted to use a lot more clips and do quick cuts, to keep the “energy” theme consistent, but eventually I basically ran out of good footage and needed to recycle some, which was disappointing. I wish I had more time to film, and I also, to a certain extent, wish I had gotten a better camera to film, using my phone was not terrible for some of the filming where I was close to the action, but when I needed to zoom in, the film became grainy and the quality decreased a lot, which can be expected.
How Could the Professor Improve the Assignment for the Next Class?
I think the assignment was a really well rounded experience to discover how the Adobe Suite works, and Garageband was a really nice addition into the music part of Digital Media Arts. I really enjoyed it and I don’t think much has to change.
How Might you Apply your Knowledge in Future Assignments or Work Scenarios?
The video editing part will be really helpful for the future, because I will likely have the duty some day of editing sports highlight packages. I hope to become more fluent with the abilities of Adobe Premiere so that I can add cool effects to the highlight reels, and I know now how to implement downloaded graphics to make a whole interesting video, which will be really neat.
How did a Specific Reading or Video Help Inspire You?
I don’t think a specific video from class inspired me, but I think just watching sports highlights on social media gave me the idea to do a sports-designed video. I didn’t really capture all of the emotion I wanted to capture, because in the games I was recording, I didn’t have good film of a lot of goals that the team was excited about. Unfortunately, each game I attended where I intended to film goals for a video about energy, was a blowout, and the teams weren’t really excited about scoring. But in general, I was inspired by sports highlights.
