DMA 217: Project 1

  1. What did you learn?
    • I went pretty in-depth into Figma’s interactive features. The variable and component variant systems are very useful and well designed.
  2. What was easy?
    • The actual process of assigning interactions between frames/elements was really intuitive and easy to understand. I had a lot of fun thinking up how things would flow.
  3. What was challenging?
    • It was a bit challenging to figure out how to implement an infinite loop that checks for a variable change and causes a corresponding variant change on a different component. It definitely helped understand the nuances of the prototyping tab, though.
  4. How could your submission be improved?
    • I think that some of the design elements could be refined. I’m not 100% set on the current color scheme.
  5. How could the professor improve the assignment for the next class?
    • I personally had a lot of time left over, but I’m not sure about the rest of the class. I was able to use that time to explore more advanced Figma features.
  6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?
    • I would definitely use Figma to mock-up and plan out interactive designs. I think the Dev tab could also be useful for web development.
  7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?
    • I don’t think we had any readings/videos so far, but the class slides were helpful for inspiration. I had a lot of fun thinking critically about interaction.
