Project 1: Graphic Design

For this first project, we crafted a holiday card using Photoshop techniques, including layer masking, Object selection, brush and pen tools, text, and layer styles.

What did you Learn: I learned many techniques, including the object selection tool and layer masking, as well as how to use them all in order to fulfill a task and create a project.

What was easy: The text, fonts, layer styles, and object selection was very simple and quick to do. I also really admired the brush tool to blend the foreground into the background.

Final Draft of my card

What was challenging: The concept as a whole was difficult. As I chose Halloween as my holiday, it took a lot of work to come up with a design idea (I never saw a Halloween card). I also had difficulty with the pen tool for text, as I somehow misclicked the text to be shorter than anticipated.

My first draft (printed out).

How could your submission be improved: I think I made all the corrections since the printing lab. I changed the witch silhouette to have color to show the foreground compare to the orange background with the silhouettes.

How could the professor improve the assignment: I think the professor made a great project (more like a ‘test’) that combined everything we learned during the past few weeks.

How might you apply your knowledge in future: I will apply this knowledge possibly for upcoming assignments (in the sense that I’ll know that I would use many techniques to create a project).

How did a specific reading or video inspired you: A reading or a video didn’t inspire me, I instead was inspired by my printing lab and was determined to do better.

In conclusion, this project was challenging in many ways; nevertheless, it was incredibly eye-opening to use many techniques in order to compose a full project.
