Project 2

  1. What did you learn?

I learned that you can design many different types of merchandise for a fan favorite. It does not always have to be for a band or artist. It can be any people, places, or things that inspire you. For example, I chose to based my designs off of a small town in North Carolina that I spent many of my summers in as a child.

2. What was easy?

It was easy to find a font that would fit well with my poster. I ended up choosing the font AdornS Engraved in Adobe Illustrator. I also found it easy to choose what shapes I wanted my stickers to be.

3. What was challenging?

I found it challenging to choose the right items to place in the beach scene on my 24 x 36 poster. I also found it challenging to find the right hex codes to use in my color palette for my stickers. I wanted them to be pastel and similar to colors you would find at the beach.

4. How could your submission be improved?

My submission could be improved by adding a beach background to the stickers or creating a horizontal version of my 24 x 36 poster.

5. How could the professor improve the assignment?

The professor could improve the assignment by adding more types of merchandise to choose from. I think it would be interesting to incorporate merchandise that could be both printed and interacted with on our mobile devices.

6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?

I might apply my knowledge in future assignments by making sure the color palette I use reflects the subject matter I am creating designs for. I will also keep in mind that merchandise for a fan favorite can come in a variety of different shapes, sizes, and mediums. As for work scenarios, I might apply my knowledge by understanding the type of merchandise that works best for each client.

7. How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?

I recently traveled to Sunset Beach, North Carolina over spring break. I saw objects and colors similar to the ones I used in this project. I also saw a drone video of Sunset Beach, which inspired me to create stickers and a poster for this project. In addition, I saw a video on YouTube of a graphic designer making a beach ball in Adobe lllustrator.
