- What did you learn?
I learned that there are four different color schemes: complimentary, split-complimentary, analogous, and triadic. I also learned that colors can evoke certain emotions and contain different symbolisms. Lastly, I learned that the color wheel is used to show the relationship between colors.
2. What was easy?
I found it fairly easy to think of objects I could create using simple shapes. For example, I was able to create windows and buildings in my urban city landscape by simply using rectangles. I also found it easy to navigate the linear fill even though this was my first time working with it.
3. What was challenging?
I found it challenging to design four very different landscapes and have each one use one of the four color schemes. Finding color schemes that worked for the various objects I wanted to incorporate into each frame proved to be more difficult that I had anticipated.
4. How could your submission be improved?
My submission could be improved by incorporating more objects into each scene. I could challenge myself to find two or more objects that would work well with the chosen color scheme.
5. How could I improve the assignment for next class?
The professor could improve the assignment for next class by adding an additional landscape with the color scheme of the student’s choice. For an extra but optional challenge, a specific color scheme could be given to each of the four landscapes.
6. How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?
I might apply my knowledge in future assignments by using the color wheel to match the correct colors with each other in my work. As for future work scenarios, I can apply my knowledge by explaining my understanding of the four color schemes to my boss and can state how I applied them in my work as a result.
7. How did a specific reading or video inspire you?
A specific reading inspired me by reinforcing ideas about color that I had learned in class. It was entitled “Color Theory In Graphic Design: Brief Guide for Non-Designers” by Fotor. It explained color theory, color terminology, the color wheel, primary and secondary colors, and the four color schemes among other topics. It made me think about how there is a system in place when colors are being paired together.
