Welcome to Aunt Frannie’s!

Hello all, my name is Jenna and below is a menu project and table tent project I completed for DMA Print Design.

To begin, we were given a pre- made menu, menu style, and restaurant name to use for our menu, but I decided to create my own! I named my restaurant Aunt Frannie’s Family Diner that includes a range of all day breakfast, lunch & dinner, to late night apps! I decided to fold my menu as an accordion style with a 3D cut out on the front page along with my diners slogan “it’s not what’s on the table that matters, but who’s in the chair”. When you open the menu hopefully you are hungry and begin to get excited! To make the menu itself I used InDesign and Illustrator to make the layout. I made four boxes and linked them together. I then used a basic paragraph style and created my menu. I used different fonts for the name of the dish and the headings. I then used a place holder to add an image later on, which I got from unsplash. The picture on the front is of my kitten Frannie. Once I was able to add some background color I printed it and it turned out how I imagined.

To complete the project, I made a table tent that includes all of the homemade day to day desserts. I chose to use a dessert menu as my table tent rather than daily specials since I wanted to do “made fresh daily” baked goods. I thought it was a unique take on the project. Starting with a blank platform in Indesign, it was challenging to understand how to do dye strikes and determine where the table tent folds on the end, but the overall concept was quite fun once I figured out how to move along with the project. Overall, I think both my menu and table tent came out to a better standard than I held myself too and am very proud of them. There are a few things I could do differently next time like trying a different menu layout, having a different theme, etc. I had fun creating this project and hope you enjoy viewing it!
