Project 4 Post

What did I learn? I learned how to make a short film using Premiere. I also learned how to work with Garageband.

What was easy? The easy part was taking the videos and pictures.

What was challenging? The hardest part, for me, was definitely trying to express emotion in the video with random pictures and videos.

How could your submission be improved? More time making the music. That was my favorite part of the project. I think music plays a huge role in the emotion of the video so if I had more time to work on the song my video would have been better.

How could your professor improve the assignment? I don’t know.

How might you apply your knowledge to future projects or work scenarios? I think I can use my knowledge to make videos for people. I feel confident now I could make an awesome short film from vacations, hockey trips, etc.

How did a specific reading, video, or example inspire you? Honestly, the Instagram account; beeple_crap inspired me the most. Every day this guy or guy, I’m not sure, creates a beautifully detailed work of art. I thought to myself, “if this guy can do this every day – with so much detail, then I can do a cool movie once.”

What did I learn? I learned the basics of game design. I learned how to use a very popular gaming engine, in Unity, well at least the basics. I learned how fun it is to create and design a game.

What was easy? The easy part of the project was actually making the adjustments to your game. I was able to watch the videos Professor Dunkle posted and follow what he did.

What was challenging? The hardest part, for me, was designing how I wanted my game to look. The creative part. The thinking part. Actually putting trees down and putting grass down was easy but deciding what I wanted to do took the most time.

How could your submission be improved? My submission could be improved if I would have looked over the assets more and had more time. If I looked over the assets more, I would probably find some cool things I could add to make my game more fun. Also, with more time, I could create a more detailed game.

How could your professor improve the assignment? The professor could improve the assignment by having students add more assets to their game. I saw some assets, like an airplane, that could be added to your game. I am not sure how to do that.

How might you apply your knowledge to future projects or work scenarios? I am going to school to study accounting. So as far as work scenarios go, I probably won’t make a video game when I’m an accountant. Although, I think it would be cool to make a game for my younger brother or possibly show him how to make a game. He loves video games, especially Fortnite, so I think he would love to see how a simple video game is made.

How did a specific reading, video, or example inspire you? Every video game I have ever played inspired me. I used to play video games a lot and they filled me with the urge to make a video game. I now have a new appreciation for video game creators and designers.

What Did I Learn? I learned the basics of web design and coding. My whole life I have only seen the finished product of a website but I have never lifted up the hood and seen what was inside. This project showed me the guts of a website and how to edit them.

What Was Easy? The easiest part for me was knowing what to put on my resume. Before this project, I had my official resume finished so it was just a matter of copying my resume.

What Was Challenging? The hardest part of the project was deciding what font I wanted to use. For a resume, I wanted to make sure my font stood out but also that it was professional.

How Could Your Submission Be Improved? I think my resume could have been better with better colors. Now that a couple weeks have passed, I have no idea what I was thinking when I chose red and beige for my primary colors. I wish I would have picked Red & Black or Blue & Gray would be cool.

How Could Your Professor Improve The Assignment? I don’t know. I really liked this project because it showed me the basics of coding and web design. Everyone, nowadays, is always talking about web design and coding so it was cool for me to at least get a little taste of it.

How might you apply your knowledge to future projects or work scenarios? I can apply this knowledge by editing my resume again! I think it’s awesome to have my resume on that link. Instead of having a boring normal paper resume, I can tell people to go to my link and see my colorful fun resume.

How did a specific reading, video, or example inspire you? The reading about being simple helped me in this project. When I was designing my resume web page, I was thinking about putting my whole resume on there but then I realized that it was too much. I realized a lot of the stuff I have on my resume is pointless and complex. So for this project, I cut down my resume to the most important experiences and skills.

What did I learn? I learned a lot. I learned how to actually use Photoshop. I learned how to crop the background out of a picture. I learned how to use multiple photo shop tools to create art. I learned about the importance of fonts. I never really thought of fonts as having so much power as they do.

What was easy? The easiest part for me was using the magnetic lasso tool. I found that part kinda fun. Other than that nothing was really easy or hard. I just didn’t have any experience with Photoshop before this class. I had to watch the videos over and go slow.

What was challenging? Nothing was really challenging. Once I watched the videos and went slow I was able to duplicate what Prof. Dunkle did.

How could your submission be improved? More time. I think if I worked on the project longer I could come up with more creative and fun ways to design my project. I could edit the fonts more or maybe crop some more cool photos on the front of the card.

How can your Professor improve the assignment in the future? I’m not sure. I have a blast doing this project and I will definitely put what I learned to use in the future by making cards for parties or for birthdays.

How might you apply your knowledge to future projects or work scenarios? Well now I know how to use Photoshop well basic Photoshop. Either way I feel that I can make some pretty cool posters and cards now. This will come in handy for my summer job. I work at a company that teaches people how to ice skate. I can make posters now for the upcoming camps and hang them up around the rink.

How did a specific reading, video, or example inspire you? The article we read about font inspired me. Before then I really didn’t acknowledge font. Now when I see writing anywhere I focus on the font. I understand the power font has. One of my favorite parts of the project was picking a spooky font to go with my card.
