Project 2: Screensavers

Screensavers:

Mobile/Portrait

Reflection:

  • What did you learn?
    • I learned how to use gradients to get rid of the edge of pictures that we do not want to see instead of using the pen tool. When using a gradient to incorporate a different photo or object into something that is already there, it makes it feel like one piece instead of several different things stacked on top of one background. It also makes the photo look like there’s some depth to it.
  • What was easy?
    • It was easy creating the cloud and texture backgrounds. When I found colors that I thought would go well together, I knew where I wanted the clouds to appear. With the textured background, when I found a textured area in my photos that was good enough, the rest was easy.
  • What was challenging
    • It was challenging using the pen tool to cut out the body of minnie mouse because the curve pen tool was harder to work with. I had trouble figuring out how to use it but eventually got it to work.
  • How could your submission be improved?
    • I think my submission could be improved if I had a photo that could have been the whole background because I happen to favor those kinds of looks. None of my photos would have worked for that because a lot of the photos I took focused on a specific object with the same white background.
  • How could I improve the assignment for the next class?
    • I would say maybe more time or just introducing the project earlier so people can think out what photos have the potential of making a good screensaver.
  • How might you apply your knowledge in future assignments or work scenarios?
    • I will apply all the tools and techniques I learned for the future. Like the making of different backgrounds and the different tools like the pen tool and gradients for future work. I can see myself using the gradient tool often to hide edges of photos because I like the look of it being one with the background instead of sitting on top.
  • How did a specific reading or video inspire or help you?
    • “The Vision (Orpheus Scene)” by F. Holland Day from the website https://mashable.com/2015/02/19/before-photoshop/#vus4SDGxaGqb helped me with a vision for my project. I liked how even though there are several different pictures layered on top of one photo, the way everything is blended looks like one photo. Everything is blended, to the point you can not see the edges of when a new subject/photo begins. The photo almost looks like it has some depth or layers to it with all the different subjects. So I wanted to accomplish something similar to that by using the gradient tool.
