In this project, we took common metaphors and turned them into photograph combinations of objects that wouldn’t normally go together. My metaphor was, “the world is your oyster.”

The easiest part of this project was actually constructing the project. I placed planet Earth and the moon in the shell of an oyster and added in some shadows that would make it look as if it was realistic.

The hardest part of this project was actually choosing a metaphor to start off of. Many of my choices were either too cliche or I couldn’t put both aspects of the metaphor together.

To improve my project, I could have made the oyster shell more simple. It had many ugly appendages where each side of the shell meets and on the inside of the shell.

This assignment could be improved by making two metaphors instead of one. A lot of students made metaphors with too much cartoon content, but they were still solid projects, so there should be one realistic and one cartoon project due.

To get a better grasp on the concept of image replacement, I looked back at some of my past work. This is my strong suit as a designer.
